Well for a while we've had #pickup-hq running on Quakenet. Basically it's been a place for people to advertise pickups, and quite a few regulars idle there waiting for one.
We've decided to start using a bot for creating pickups, like CS pickups do. We're hoping to get a whole load of idlers and then server admins can start a game with the bot, people then add themselves to the pickup until all player slots are filled. We've tried it out tonight and had a couple of the best pickups in a long while (pretty even teams, good spirited, everyone staying til the end - at 4.30am!) so this bodes well for the future.
So basically all you need to do is idle in #pickup-hq and if an admin starts a pickup, sign yourself up if you want to play. In order to make this succesful we'll need a lot of idlers (so hopefully have lots of different pickups running all throughout the day) so spread the word :]
By the way if you have rcon to a server and would like to run a few pickups (you don't have to do anything, just start the pickup with the bot then sort map changes etc.) then contact sacred and he'll add you as a pickup admin. We're looking for as many admins and servers as possible, and of course players. :)
Even if you don't play many pickups it's a good channel to find people actually talking, even til the wee hours of the morning. So idle in #pickup-hq everyone gogo!
