**PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT, V.IMPORTANT EVERYBODY GET THEIR ASSES THERE NOW?!?!** http://www.body-count.org/images/RIPOFF.jpg PROOF OF THE RIP OFF, PLEASE CHECK IT NOW, UMG RIP?! THANKS TO THE COOL PERSON WHO MAKE IT. WUB?

What you think your playing at? I wouldn't mind if you had a clue about web-design and could actually make some valid points concerning the website, but instead you have to march in and offend as many people as possible, well i'm offended. I dont see =BC= members going to teamshs.com and making any sort of derogatory remark concerning the site, do you? If im mistaken them please go ahead and point me to the relevant url.
A message to UncleBruce, is Nero really an appropriate choice of vice captain at shs? Surely a vice captain of a highly respected clan such as yourselves should learn when, how and why to keep his mouth firmly shut.
If anybody has any genuine question/gripe about the website feel free to contact me in #bodycount, and im sure myself or Lifeless will be happy to answer it. Thanks.

    |edited because it had too many naughty words, there are young people like LordDW here ;x IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TOO?!|<br><br>[ Edited by vo at 25 Apr, 2002 (19:31:39) ]

Btw i would like to say that if anyone does have anything on their site similiar to =BC='s then n1....who cares,As long as someone doesnt directly rip the code then its surely a compliment.

I could understand some peoples comments if lifey and Vo had made some proclamation that they'd created the worlds most amazing and original clan site with SHOCK results,a members list and wow even a link to a forum!1!(that doesnt work ;x) but they didnt(afaik:P),Theyve just made a nice site.

    vo, learn to read.

What high horse? I've said twice now that digwar.com isn't that good, is looking old etc. - OMG FEAR MY ARROGANCE IN SLATING MY OWN WORK. I also said you'd done a good job - again, arrogance++. What I'm saying, if you'd care to spend the time actually thinking about what I've written, is that the BC site does nothing new. I've been very careful to make sure I said that wasn't an insult, because it isn't. It is, however, a fact; every feature/gadget on here is old news. Not just in that "some site somewhere" implements it, but in that sites in the very small community which is "UK TFC clans" implement them. You're right, you're never going to think of something that noone in the entire world has ever done before. You could, however, think of things that none of the dozen or so decent UK clan sites has done before.

As I said above too, I'm not complaining about the site or crying "ripoff", I'm merely pointing out that it's implementing things which have been done to death already, and therefore isn't as impressive as something truly original would have been.

Your comments regarding digwar.com are a little strange, however. The preferences idea was something I decided on while talking to Biggz, which I worked on myself; I'd not seen skinnable sites before that. The calender was original too.

My point about the result details page etc. is just that it's a little coincidental. Yeah of course it's going to show the same information. But so many details are identical - using overlib in exactly the same way for exactly the same job (which no clan site had ever done before digwar.com), etc. Again I'm not complaining, just pointing out how people arrive at the conclusion that the site is heavily influenced.

You're getting carried away. I've told you the site is good, but because I didn't fall down and suck your dick you're all pissed off. Well sorry, but it's obvious to anyone with half a brain (and some with less, e.g. Nero) that, despite the work you've put it, you haven't developed any new ideas or concepts, not even among the very very limited subgroup which is clan sites. Which, as I've said above, IS FINE - but is also the reason some people aren't as impressed as you so blatantly want them to be.

You've obviously decded to be offended no matter what I say, unless I hail you as the new king of the internet. Well tough shit I guess - I've told you plenty of times above what I think of the site, and if you can't even take well natured comments let alone criticism, then it's pointless asking for feedback at all.

Grr I just wrote a column about this and now I'll have to reply all sensibly too. Bear with me since I have work to do as well :)

    Bleh, I'm too slow.

Ta Afx, hadn't seen Revz's column - shall read now.

Afx you're right, digwar.com wasn't groundbreaking, but can you remember the state of clan websites at the time I wrote it? Nothing it does is amazing, but compared to what was about at the time I'd say it was fairly unique back then.

As for not complaining about SHS ripping ideas off, that's probably because I didn't really pay much attention to their site when it launched. I haven't seen many sites at all the last 6-8 months as I don't play any more. I was merely trying to explain where people are likely coming from when they say things like "it's similar to digwar.com / teamshs.com / randomothersite.com.

I shall stop posting now as I'm alwys like 10 posts behind.

After reading Revz column, a couple more points.

At the time Life was learning PHP for the last site, I chatted to him a few times about web dev stuff and gave him a (very small) helping hand with some things, including the calender (I told him in broad terms how I'd implemented it, as I tell people who mail me to ask once or twice a week). I'd hardly do that if I were uber-jealous and didn't want anyone to ever implement a calender, nor do I mind when people do.

What I've written on here was largely because I had been under the (false) impression that vo and Life had been touting the site as amazingly original and stuff, which obviously isn't the case and so I apologise - and will now do what I said I'd do above and stop posting :).

As I mentioned in my column nearly every UK clan site was influenced by digwar.com in some way. In itself digwar.com was pretty ground breaking for a clan site at the time (at least in terms of what I had seen) but has since then been expanded on and bettered in certain ways by others.

The people writing digwar.com, body-count.org and teamshs.com are all very talented. There may be a borrowing of ideas going on (as I said digwar.com influenced most clan sites and still does to this day) but the fact the the other two are written in PHP and the original in ASP means that it is impossible to call them simple copies. Their authors had to implement features themselves - as you may know having an idea and realising it are two different things.

I know for a fact that Life wrote the calendar system for his uncle because I remember him doing it. He then went on to use that system to emulate a feature of digwar.com that we all thought was good. The backend running it probably bears no resemblance to how CC did it but the feature works in the same way.

Graphically it is in the eye of the beholder. I like this new design 110% more than the old one (which I didn't like much at all if I'm honest). The "washed out" look is pretty nice. If I could choose a scheme for my own site it would be like this. Just my personal preference but please don't have a go at vorx for not coming up with something unique and being (a bit overly) defensive of his work. All art is inspired by something I thought.

If I had produced something like this I would be DAMN proud of it. Sure I can take criticism but when someone comes and says "oh you just copied x" then I would get pissed off. Mainly because of the amount of work I would have put in to write "feature x" myself despite the fact that it might not be unique. If we could all write unique websites we would be web dev millionaires. The fact that Life, a 17 year old Dutch lad, wrote all of this when he didn't even know PHP a year ago still suprises me.

I wouldn't say digwar.com, body-count.org or teamshs.com have anything much over the other. digwar.com gets credit for being the first whilst the other two are "more, better" versions of it.

Lets just be happy we have people who are talented enough to write sites like this in the first place instead of trying to bring them down.
